German scientists have successfully developed a new type of environmentally friendly fireproof plastic, which not only overcomes many shortcomings of traditional fireproof plastics, but also is easy to produce and has better flame retardant effect.

Traditional fireproof plastics have many disadvantages, such as: the added fireproof agent is easy to volatilize harmful substances; it is easy to fail with the passage of time; it is easy to corrode the plastic to destroy its mechanical and insulating properties. Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Polymers in Germany wrapped the fireproof agent in a ball made of melamine resin, and then added these balls in the plastic production process. Normally, the melamine resin will not melt and will release the fireproof agent only in case of fire, thus achieving the flame retardant effect.

These pellets are reported to have a diameter of about three to thirty microns and an internal pressure of about fifty atmospheres. It is stable and can be added directly in the existing plastic production process without modifying the production equipment.

In addition, scientists also said that even nitrogen, carbon dioxide and other substances can be wrapped in the ball to achieve better flame retardant effect.
