PC plastic is a kind of thermoplastic engineering plastic with excellent performance. It has outstanding impact resistance, good creep resistance and dimensional stability, heat resistance, low water absorption, non-toxic, and excellent dielectric properties. It is one of the five major engineering plastics. Good transparency products. At present, it is widely used in automobile, electronic and electrical, construction, office equipment, packaging, sports equipment, medical and other fields. With the deepening of modification research, it is rapidly expanding to aerospace, computer, CD and other high-tech fields.

PC plastic production status

Polycarbonate industrial synthesis is mainly the interface phosgenation route, bisphenol A as raw material, the use of phosgene, sodium hydroxide and dichloromethane as raw materials and reaction additives, this method is mature, high quality products, easy to scale and continuous production, good economy, etc., long-term occupation of the dominant position in the production of polycarbonate. However, because the raw material phosgene used in this method is highly toxic, major companies have studied non-phosgene production routes in recent years.

In 1993, the non-phosgene process was successfully studied and industrialized production was achieved by GE Plastics Japan. Mainly using bisphenol A and diphenyl carbonate as raw materials, this process is a "green process" that meets environmental requirements, and has become the development direction of polycarbonate synthesis process in the future. It is expected that it will gradually dominate the production of polycarbonate in the future. In 2002, the global total production capacity of PC plastics was about 2.3 million tons/year. PC production was mainly concentrated in the United States, Western Europe and Japan. The production capacity of the above three major producing areas accounted for about 90% of the world's total production capacity.

At present, the development of polycarbonate industry in the world presents two characteristics

First, production is becoming more concentrated and monopolized. The production capacity of Bayer Company of Germany, GE Chemical Company of the United States, Dow Chemical Company and Teijin Company of Japan accounts for about 80% of the world's total production capacity. These major companies control the production and market of polycarbonate in the world and dominate the fate of polycarbonate in the world.

Second, Asia is developing rapidly. In recent years, with the gradual recovery of the Asian economy and the sustained and stable economic development of China and India, the demand for PC plastics is getting stronger and stronger. World-famous polycarbonate manufacturers have come to Asia to invest and build factories. According to incomplete statistics, 70% of the polycarbonate plants built or planned to be built in Asia from 1997 to 2004 are in Asia.
